Positions call in the Unit of Experiemntal Bacteriology Laboratory
ABOUT THE UNIT
The Experimental bacteriology laboratory (EBL) headed by Dr JM Collard (www.linkedin.com/pub/jean-marc-collard/36/861/8a9) is embedded in the Center for Microbes, Development and Health (CMDH). EBL aims to decipher key ecological rules driving the maturation steps of the intestinal microbiota from the neonatal period to the age of 3 when it reaches its steady state. In a developmental perspective, EBL will identify constraints, environmental clues, and individual/collective dynamics driving the stepwise construction of the gut bacterial ecosystem. On this basis, EBL will address the dynamics of constitution of dysbiosis seen as a stalled maturation process with possible consequences on disease programming later in life.
To achieve these goals, EBL will develop an innovative combination of culturomics, metataxonomics and single cell analysis to deeply interrogate the construction of bacterial consortia and the resulting prokaryote-prokaryote episymbotic and exclusion events that support bacterial assembly.
EBL scientists will work in close collaboration with other groups of the CMDH, developing microfluidic and organ-on-chip technologies, gnotobiology, omics and high-resolution photon microscopy.
The Unit is now seeking outstanding candidates, including Research Associate Anaerobic Microbiology and Lab Manger
Qualifications for Research Associate:
1. A confirmed experience supported by publications in anaerobic bacteriology.
2. The incumbent should be proficient in:
？ using anaerobic chambers;
？ cultivating fastidious anaerobes with relevance in human medicine;
？ using MALDI-TOF MS to identify anaerobic bacteria;
？ identifying antibiotic resistance determinants in anaerobes;
？ proceeding to (comparative) genomic analyses of newly-identified gut anaerobic bacteria;
3. Experience in conducting an independent research supported by external funding is an asset.
4. Good professional ethics, personality and morality.
5. Good communication skills in English and Chinese.
Job Description for Lab Manager:
1. Administrative and financial monitoring (supervision of accounting, costs and invoicing) of projects, human resources monitoring and technical monitoring of projects in close collaboration with the Accounting, Assets and Auditing department, HR and Graduate students department and the Division of Scientific and Technology Development and Cooperation;
2. Purchasing equipment and reagents in close collaboration with the Equipment department;
3. Correspondence with financial and technical partners;
4. Preparation of monthly/weekly summary reports for equipment/instrument operations and laboratory related activities;
5. Support in process/analytical methods/validation/cleaning/maintenance of laboratory equipment;
6. Assistance of members of the laboratory in conducting experiments;
7. Maintenance of logs for biological samples, biobank and supplies for the laboratory;
8. Realization of any other task relating to project activity deemed useful by the Head of Unit.
Qualifications for Lab Manager:
1. Master/Bachelor degree in biology or life sciences or graduated in administration;
2. Good professional ethics, personality and morality;
3. Good communication skills in English and Chinese;
4. Strong leaning ability, coordination skills and good teamwork spirit;
